White House Guardianships
White House Guardianships cares for children studying at some of the best schools in Britain. If required, we offer a free placement service with advice on the right choice of school for each child.
With over twenty years of experience in school selection and guardianship, the wealth of knowledge in our family business and our long-standing relationship with schools all over the UK has attracted students from more than 30 countries.
Head Office maintains contact with parents/agents by e-mail and fax, reporting regularly on each student’s progress and immediately should any particular event or incident merit attention.
From Head Office, our staff co-ordinate the activities of a highly trained team of Local Coordinators throughout the UK who act as local guardians, living close to the child’s school and providing constant care and support. They maintain regular, individual contact with all of our students by telephone, letter and personal visits, passing a constant flow of information back to us for transmission to parents. This also means that if you have children at different schools within the United Kingdom, we can provide guardianship cover, meaning you only have to deal with one organisation.
The UK School year is divided into three terms:
Autumn: September- December
Spring: January- March
Summer: April- July
The safety of every child is paramount.
All our staff at Head Office, our Local Coordinators, Host Families and Transport Drivers are verified as safe persons to be with children by the UK Government’s Criminal Records Bureau. Whilst conforming with the guidelines of the Children Act 1989, we also meet the professional standards of The Association of Educational Guardians for International Students (AEGIS) & The Association of Guardianship Services (TAGS).
Our guardianship service is designed to provide for every need that a child in a British School would require, and which would normally be provided for by their natural parents.
We hope to allay the understandable anxiety of parents whose children are many miles away from home and to provide the pupil with the friendship and security to enable them to fulfil their place at the school with the same confidence as their peers whose parents are close at hand. For private school students we arrange family accommodation during half term holidays and exeat weekends,
Private School Programme
(Available to students aged 7-18 years from any country)
British private schools have a worldwide reputation for excellence. They provide an outstanding education in an environment that combines long-standing tradition with a modern enterprising philosophy that prepares their students for the challenges of adult life. Many students reach high levels of academic achievement and usually go on to study at university.
In our experience, students benefit more as boarders. They become a much more integrated part of the school community, and their progress is considerably faster than students who decide to live with a family during term time. Boarders tend to be more confident and independent, and show greater qualities of leadership and responsibility.
We take great care to regulate the number of students of any one nationality in the same school. This ensures maximum integration and encourages the use of English at all times. During half terms and exeat weekends, we arrange family accommodation for all our boarding students.
In summary, Private Schools offer greater parental choice, smaller class sizes, supervised homework sessions, and an extensive choice of sports, music and the creative arts.
Principal Guardian Ship Programme
A White House Local Coordinator, is the students immediate point of contact, living within forty-five minutes of each child’s school. They will act as the student’s guardian and are responsible for him/her whilst at school or staying with a host family during an exeat or half term holiday.
State School Programme
Schools participating in this programme are selected very carefully on their record of academic achievement and for their enthusiasm in accepting students from other countries. These schools comment that they benefit as much from the cultural exchange as the foreign students themselves. Great care is taken to regulate the number of students of any one nationality within the same school to ensure maximum integration and to encourage the use of English at all times. Schools are generally located in small communities and not in large cities.
Students live with a carefully chosen host family within easy reach of the school and their Local Coordinator is available by telephone and email. We encourage students to become fully involved in the social life of the local community.
